I am interested in getting breast implants. I have read so many horror stories about bad breast implants. How can I find the best plastic surgeon?
Plastic surgery is a big business, like any other business. Many surgeons advertise their surgical skills but they also perform lower cost surgery and more of them, often times with the results looking unnatural or having complications like hardening (capsular contracture.)
Having a doctorate or being a licensed plastic surgeon is not a guarantee of a great surgeon or a natural looking and safe breast augmentation.
You can find the best surgeons through referrals from other women who have already had a breast augmentation and the nurses who work in hospitals with these doctors.
Look at other women who have had surgery and see if you like the way they look? Do they appear natural? Are they complication free? Most women are happy to share their success stories with other women who ask.
Visit your local hospital and meet with nurses, ask them who is known to be the best plastic surgeon for your type of breast surgery? Who do all the nurses use? You will hear the same name over and over again. Remember nurses see thousands of patients, they know who the best doctors are for all types of plastic surgery.
Choose a doctor who is skilled at plastic and reconstructive surgery.
The best surgeons in many areas do not need to advertise. These doctors are so busy with referrals that there is no need for them to look for patients.
Your chances of getting the perfect breast implantation increase in areas where doctors specialize in breast augmentation, such as California, Florida and Texas. These doctors perform many more breast augmentation surgeries annually than in colder climates.
All surgery carries risk of infection, complications during or after the surgery and death from anesthesia. You may require multiple surgeries to repair deflation or ruptures, unevenly placed breasts, capsular contracture, infection, bottoming out, symmastia, necrotic tissue, or an implant that bursts through the skin. Doing your research prior to selecting a surgeon will decrease the chances of having a bad surgical result.
If you have a bad surgical result you will pay for the future surgeries and the anesthesia. Breast implants are designed to last for approximately ten years. All implants should be replaced periodically. You will pay for the next surgery and new implants every ten years. If you are a young woman you will be facing a lifetime of multiple surgeries that you may or may not be able to afford. Can you afford a complication if it arises?
You may wish to factor in the costs of multiple surgeries and possible complications before you sign up for that first breast augmentation. Research breast implant complications and read about women who are having problems. The instant gratification you gain from breast implants can result in a lifetime of health problems.
Women who have breast implants are routinely denied health insurance.
If breast implants are so safe then why do insurance deny health care coverage to these women? The health industry and the implant manufacturers get protection from the government but women get no protection.
I don’t see Congress passing a bill that women with breast implants can’t be discriminated against? Do the insurance companies know something they aren’t telling us?
